Russell Mokhiber of Single Payer Action joins Health Writer Steve Blank for a discussion of the the Affordable Care Act (ACA) and the Supreme Court’s ruling that the bill’s mandate requiring Americans to purchase private health insurance is constitutional. Single Payer Action filed an amicus brief asking the Court to strike down Obama’s mandate and arguing that there was a Constitutional way out – single payer – Medicare for all. The mandate is a deal that awards an expansion of the private insurance company’s client bases in exchange for a regulation of their discriminatory policies. Does the ACA deal bring the U.S. closer to a single payer, Medicare for All system of health insurance?
